Sue Duda - Batik Artist Sue Duda’s Bachelor’s Degree in Art, from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, initiated her art career in 1976. After 22 years as a studio potter, a strong current took her down a new stream, which led to the ocean. After scuba diving and snorkeling, Duda began capturing the ocean’s gorgeous colors and intricate patterns on silk, using the wax-resist method of BATIK. Vibrant colors harmoniously blend on silk, creating cheerful, eye-catching designs. Foregrounds are uniquely enhanced by the crackled backgrounds. This effect produces the look of sunrays flowing through water, which is exceptionally complimentary to her underwater pieces. Sue Duda creatively shares her love for color and the ocean and hopes to positively influence mankind’s awareness of our fragile ecosystem. Duda’s artwork allows her to bring the splendors of the underwater world to the surface, creating cheerful art for others to enjoy. Art and diving enthusiasts can build distinctive collections.
