While the exact origin of the "Thank You" message printed on the "t-shirt" plastic bag invented by Swedish engineer Sten Gustaf Thulin and patented by the company Celloplast in 1965 is difficult to pinpoint, it's clear that it was added by stores as a gesture of appreciation to customers.
