Over mij
What Your Cat Dragged In is a digital collection of various art pieces created by me, Edith!
I grew up in a town you’ve never heard of in Texas where I spent a majority of her time frolicking around outside in the solace of the country or watching cartoons she probably shouldn’t have been watching. Both nature and the absurdity of cartoons influence all her work today as these activities are still how she spends most of her time.
Alleyways and dumpsters tend to provide plenty of reusable surfaces that I can paint over with acrylics and spray-paint or cover with various mixed media objects. Usually, I wander around my apartment collecting whatever I’ve hoarded that currently interests me and allow myself to fall into a mindset of visual evocation and spontaneous exploration that is guided by an organic, extemporaneous flow. Creativity provides a channel for my obsessive thoughts to transmute into a work of art- a healthier coping mechanism than my previous endeavors. Each piece has its own unique origin and maintains an abstract, cartoonish element.
Creating art is an uninhibited, therapeutic mental jaunt where I can playfully construct reality in an aimlessly productive manner wherein, I choose the color scheme. This is central to coping with my mental health and addiction issues and I aim to provoke that feeling in my work to entice onlookers to create whatever they want with an unrestrained curiosity that accepts and embraces flaws. Art is the best way to run out the clock.
