My name is Vicki Kotnik and I am an artist. I am 48 years old and I live in Pittsburgh, PA. I am not a professional, but an extremely enthusiastic hobbyist. I work in a variety of different mediums. I draw and paint, working with pencils pastels, acrylics, charcoal, watercolor and pen & ink. I also create digital art using the Adobe Creative Suite and Corel Paint. I also make jewelry, working with beads and metal. I sell my hand-made jewelry on Etsy. I have a home studio and workshop, where I create my art. I have some formal training, but I'm mostly self-taught. I took art lessons when I was a child, every Saturday morning at the Carnegie Museum of Art & Natural History in Pittsburgh, PA. I wanted to go to college for art, but I let my well-intentioned parents talk me into studying something more "practical". That's how I ended up with a degree in economics! In addition to art and jewelry, I love music, books, video games and cooking. I have 2 cats named Millie and Jinx who both love to watch me work. Sometimes, they even try to help! Right now I work as a bookkeeper, but I'm taking prerequisites to pursue a master's degree in art therapy in my spare time. Since I can only attend school on a part-time basis, it will take me a while to finish all of the prerequisites I need. I hope to be able to start grad school within the next One other notable thing about me is that I'm a recovering alcoholic. Creating art is an important part of my recovery. My recovery is also a major reason why I'm pursuing a degree in art therapy. I want to help others the way I was helped.
