Artist Randy Burman originally created the Political Sign Project for the 2018 midterm election where he printed and gave away, for FREE, about 300 yard signs with wire lawn stands including FREE shipping in the U.S. to anyone who would agree to legally display the sign(s), take and post a picture on social media with the hashtag #savedemocracy and @randyburman (for tracking). When confronted with more requests after the offer ended about two weeks before the election, he promised to upload the designs to Zazzle where the any of the designs could be printed on yard signs - as well as many other swell products Zazzle offers, like tshirts which many had requested, and that profits could be used to support progressive causes and candidates. This store is a fulfillment of that promise. The signs all ask the same question: “How are you voting this year?” And then offer a STARK CHOICE between “Democrat” or one of an ever-growing list of words, terms, even emojis, used to describe far-right-wing politicians, their positions, policies and strategies. Many of the words and terms are advocated by conservative ideologues, Republican policy-makers, DJT, white supremacists and religious fanatics determined on maintaining their patriarchal grip. Some are snarky. Some will make you smile. Most are disturbingly true. We face important issues on which our survival depends: economic, environmental, social. If we cannot make progress on the question of climate change, for example, all the rest of our debates are meaningless. If we choke on our own air, or starve in our own droughts, then we better hope the religious people are right about heaven, because there will be no place left for us on earth.
