À propos
Greetings! My name is Mark A. Garlick, and I am a freelance illustrator, author and computer animator based in Hove, England. As an artist I specialise in earth sciences, technology, astronomy, space and science fiction, but my writing focuses mainly on astronomy. Like many artists I began my career by getting dirty with tubes of paint, and occasionally I do still work with traditional media such as acrylic or oil pastels. But these days I am primarily a digital artist, and Photoshop is my main tool, partnered with a Wacom graphics pad. I also use 3D software such as 3DS Max, Bryce and Vue.
My background? I have a degree in astronomy from University College London (UCL), and a PhD in astrophysics from the Mullard Space Science Laboratory. After I finished my PhD, I did three years of research at Sussex University, in the UK, specialising in close binary stars called cataclysmic binaries. But by the time I reached the end of my contract, it had become clear that professional astronomy was not for me, and I decided on a career change.
Now, self-trained in illustration, I run a small company called Mark Garlick Words and Pictures Ltd and I have never looked back. I have written and/or illustrated many books, and my images have appeared in their hundreds in other books, publications and in advertising.
No artist or writer can survive without clients. So that's where you - and this shop - come in.
