Cravate City - Buffalo NY - Creeks and Elevators 1900
Colorized photo from 1900
Original title: Creek and elevators near foot of Main Street, Buffalo, N.Y.
Photographer: Detroit publishing
Location: Near the Michigan Ave Bridge
In the past you could find grain elevators everywhere in Buffalo NY. As technology changed so did that. And they started to disappear. But right now in 1900 they are everywhere, tall structures that its only purpose is to extract grain from ships and put them into trains or vice versa. It uses a sort of snout, which contains cups on a loop. The grain is scooped out from the big ships and put into storage. Later it is either gravity fed into train cars or put into canalboats.
This spot we are in is located somewhere near where the General Mills building sits now, a little opposite the bridge on Michigan Ave. On the right is roughly where the West village district is. If you were to compare this spot to today, the entire town is gone. None of those things exist today, just large commercial buildings and parking lots.
The center island in this image, isn't there today, its totally gone. At the far end is the Watson elevator, it was one of the first things you saw when you came in. Next to that, the large one is the Dakota. Behind this island today, is where the Naval park sits and Canalside. The tall pointy structure is a Lyon elevator.
If you look carefully at the last building on the left, right on the back edge you can see a sliver of the 1833 lighthouse.
The two ships on the left are the City of Venice, launched in 1892 then crashed in 1902, 3 people died. The Clarion (the white one behind it), was built in 1881, but it caught fire in the winter in an are that was very cold. 1 died, 13 went missing.

facile à concevoir, joli choix de caractère, de couleur et facile de mettre ce que l'on veut. Les couleurs pourraient être un peu plus fortes sinon, joli rendu
