Meat makes the world go round, well at least à Turkey, meat is cooked by turning round and round. Made of lamb, beef, veal or chicken (and never pork), the spiced meat is placed on a rotating vertical stick in the shape of in inverted cone. Over time, the meat is slowly rotated (the meaning of the word doner) and cooked. Thin slices are then shaved off and prepared many ways such as durums (meat wraps) or porsiyon, simply plated with rice/potatoes, tomatoes, peppers et a cucumber-garlic-yogurt sauce. It is a standard street food around the country and because of it's affordable prices, this meal for the nation.
